Save Reality, Go Virtual Charity Event Friday-Cancer Research

Graphics By Ilga Beck

Announcing the next in a series of monthly charity fund raising events at Club Neverdie, this Friday, October 6. All proceeds from ticket sales as well as some sponsor, promoter and individual donations from this event will benefit the charity called AICR (Association for International Cancer Research).

I realize there are issues in game that are having an effect on events (bugs, higher flight costs, etc) that made me consider postponing this one, but in the last two months through these events we have raised $1151 for the chosen charities, so I feel it important we keep up this momentum, so I would like to ask you all to please try to attend and to spread the word, full steam ahead!

About the charity:

Sometimes the diversity of not-for-profit organisations can be confusing. It is not always obvious what type of work each carries out. Which ones focus on care as opposed to research? Which operate in a specific geographical region and which are global?

AICR is unique in that:
  • We have no geographical boundaries - we fund the best science, no matter where it takes place
  • With 2 funding rounds per year, we can react quickly to new developments
  • We do not employ scientists nor run labs. By not being encumbered by financial overheads we can maximise the funds going towards cancer research
  • As we are not tied to specific programmes, AICR has the freedom to support innovative research into less well funded areas of cancer
  • Projects are carried out in collaboration with top class institutions - this ensures that overheads are minimised and duplication avoided
  • All projects are peer reviewed by world experts in their field
  • AICR makes a point of inviting applications from recently qualified researchers, thus investing in the future of cancer research by allowing tomorrow's leading researchers to establish themselves
For further information please see the website:
http://www.aicr.org.uk/index.stm

Now to the event:

All of the charity events will be simple hunt events in domes 1-5 on CND, so that all levels of players can participate. The date is Friday, October 6, from 20:00 MA time until 22:00 MA time. For details on numbers and maturity levels in the domes please look at the excellant chart on EntropiaDirectory here: http://www.entropiadirectory.com/wiki/index.php?title=Club_NEVERDIE_biodomes_DNA_setting s

The rules are simple, highest total loot wins, and all levels of players and weapons are welcome. The most important rule is to have fun, win loot and prizes, and make a difference in the real world, all at the same time.

Prizes:
Our sponsors have once again been very generous, and some details are still coming in about ped and items/services offered, so I will update the prize catagories if needed once details are confirmed, but the prizes will all be worth trying for I promise

1st place prize: a hunt with Neomaven, plus an A-3 Justifier Mk.II and 300 ped for ammo. The hunt will be planned and agreed between Neo and the winner, it could be right after the event or at some other date and time.

2nd place prize: 200 ped plus an EnMatAmp MA-103 (L)

3rd place prize: 100 ped plusa free beauty treatment from Leeloo (who will have her chairs and equipment on CND to take care of you)

Random Prize:50 ped to be used in Freyr's shop on CND

After the event is of course the infamous CND afterparty, in the main disco and VIP area. Make sure you have enabled the music stream in your options, or tune in to CND Live Radio on the web. There may be some additional small prizes for the dancers at the party as well, and Pinky has offered 50 ped to the person judged to have the best haircut at the party .

A very limited number of discount tickets are available for the charity events (price of 16 ped), and can be bought from Urso or other members of his soc the Entropia Green Tours, Mathayus, and some pilots and others (I will update this info as well once the sellers have tickets in hands).

Because the event is for charity, the goal is to have the majority of tickets purchased at full price (20ped) directly from the dome 1-5 land marker terminal on CND. This allows a greater amount of ped from ticket sales to go to the charity.

To purchase and register tickets (register as early as you can but no later than 15 minutes before event starts to be able to enter the event) from the terminal, go to the fertilizer room just West of the Control Room. You will find the terminal for Domes 1-5 on your right. Click on the blue landowner's marker screen, when the window pops up, click on the running man in the upper right corner of the box to open the event schedule window. Click (or double click) on the title of the event (on the left) to open up yet another window. Click on "register" and drag your ped card to the window to purchase a ticket, or your ticket to register. Clicking on confirm will indicate that you are indeed registered.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to pm me here and I will do my best to answer. Please spread the word and hope to see the domes full of fun people on Friday. Individual and group donations outside of the event are also very welcome, just pass to myself or Psycho Al, or pm me here if we are not on your fl but you want to help out.

Special thanks to our sponsors: ND, Neo, CPH, LeeLoo, Freyr, and Pinky.

Lee clears her very tired throat to make a little pre-event 'speech', so read no further unless you think it might matter to you.

Yes it is Friday folks, so please take a little time out from your usual routine in entropia to attend this event, it is an important one I think for lots of reasons.

Just for one night lets try to forget about or ignore the rubberbanding, the crashes, the no looters, even the tp of death and costs of flying so that we can just have some fun together and see another lovely letter from a worthwhile charity thanking the 'Players of the Entropia Universe'.

Of course we all know MA has stuff to address, but personally I think it is up to us, the players, the ones who love this universe despite it's many flaws (just like the real one has quite a few) to make this alternate reality into what it has the capability of becoming. Touching real lifes in a real way through these charity events is something that no other 'game' does in quite this way (that I know of), so please take one night out to help me keep this initiative alive and kicking.

Had a dream last night of logging in to find the event all sold out. It was a lovely dream, and the idea of the donation that would follow from that made me feel really proud of the players of our world. We may not make it quite that big tonight, but we can sure as hell give it a good effort. Look forward to seeing you there.

Event Update

Once again it looks like we are going to be able to say we made a difference! I was so pleased to see so many of you make the effort to be there and get in the spirit of the event, even with the no loots and bugs. It was especially nice to see so many new names and to hear lots of words of encouragement and promises to attend in future. We had 21 good souls in the domes last night, and the event seemed to be good fun. We once again had a bit of a battle for top place near the end, which always makes the adrenaline rush. ND played some really good music for us too which always helps.

Of course I haven't yet finished collecting all the pledges, and will be doing so for the next few days if anyone would like to donate, but the initial figures from ticket sales and donations is around $230 US dollars, so once the other donations are counted in I feel sure we can make a nice donation from this event again. I will update this thread as soon as I am done collecting and ready to post my receipt.

Our Winners:
First Place: Teilk
Second Place: Metalsmith
Third Place: Chaz

Our random prize winner of Freyr's 50ped shopping spree was Deidra Ann Haldog

Our afterparty was a small affair, but enough to have a few laughs and hand out some more prizes from our sponsors.
The winners at the party were:
Best Dressed Dancer: Faile Bashere
Best Couple: Pheonix Flambeau and Jinx Arlington
Best Haircut: Dol (prize and idea from Pinky)

Once again I'd like to say a big thanks to our sponsors: ND, Neo, CPH, LeeLoo, Freyr, and Pinky, as well as an extra special thanks to Mathayus, Moonfish, Creature and Ripper, Nisse, Bloodmoon, Klod, Kahr,Chaz, Ak and Al, thanks so much to you all for your help and support.

Donation Update

Took a bit longer this week to finish collecting donations from the event, but I am finally done and the donation has now been made. Our final total was $445 U.S. dollars, of which all who donated and participated can be proud.

Copied here is the initial email receipt (processed through WorldPay so reads a bit funky, will change this if aicr sends a separate email receipt), and of course I will scan and post the hard copy once it arrives.

Once again, well done to all of you, let's keep this up
